WASHINGTON, Mo.; July 25, 2011 - Patients faced with a serious illness will find hope and hints on how to survive with the help of a great health care team, a positive attitude and a good advocate at the free Patients First Health Fair in Washington on Saturday, August 20 from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Best-selling authors Gerri and Brian Monaghan will share their story of Brian’s cancer diagnosis with three to six months to live, Gerri’s advocacy fight to ensure he received the best possible care, and a roadmap for navigating the medical system – by sharing their recently-published book, When a Loved One Falls Ill: How to Be an Effective Patient Advocate. Presentations from the Monaghans will occur at top of every hour in Conference Room B. The first 50 people through the door of the Health Fair will receive a free copy of their book.

The Patients First Health Fair is packed full of helpful activities for patients and the community, including an opportunity to participate in free health screenings, browse informational booths, tour Patients First Community Hospital, and enjoy healthy snacks. KLPW ALL TALK 1220 will be broadcasting live. All attendees will receive a free photo and reusable shopper, just for stopping by.

The Patients First Health Fair is located at the Patients First Washington Campus at 901 Patients First Drive. Plenty of free parking is available in the parking lot in front of the building and in the three-tiered parking garage located on the northern perimeter of the medical campus. The event is free and open to the public.
